In gambling terms, a tip is a bet suggested by a third party (the tipster), often in exchange for some form of remuneration.
Tipsters are traditionally associated with horse racing, however this is certainly not their exclusive domain, as bets are placed on all types of sport from cricket to volley ball.
The Bad
I make no bones about it, top reliable tipsters are difficult to find. All too frequently unsuspecting and often gullible punters are suckered in to gambling on the ill-informed reasoning of a scam artist.

Like many thousands of others I enjoy the odd flutter on a race, my track record of successful bets is poor to say the least. However, I do enjoy the thrill and limit my stake to just a couple of pound or so.

Well, thankfully there are honest people out there with a genuine urge to crack the system in order to increase the winning ratio in favour of the punter.
If someone could predict the outcome of every horse race and every game of football he or she would be millionaires in no time. Of course that just isn’t going to happen.

Certainly not fool proof, but armed with such snippets of information the odds can shift more favourably in the punter’s direction.
Perhaps more reliable tips come from tipsters ‘in the know’, insiders who have information ‘straight from the horse’s mouth’. A good tipster keeps his ear to the ground and associates and circulates in horsey circles.
